5 LITTLE WEDDING STYLISTS SECRETS.

So you’re styling your own wedding and looking to give it all the Pinterest worthy details you can? Then read on below with our tips for nailing all the W-day decor details that will make your day as magical as you imagined.

1. Group your decor. A tip I give to all of my couples for maximum impact. Sounds pretty simple, but but grouping lots of your decor pieces together or tripling the small details in a focal area you’re going to get a huge ‘WOW’ reaction over spacing it through the venue.

geometric-flowers-wedding-decor

2. Make the place settings pretty special. It can be costly if you’re adding lots of detail to each and every setting, but sometimes something personal for each guest or a simple fresh herb sprig tied to their menu choices shows you thought about them and their experience of your day.

3. Prioritise your decor. You probably can’t have it all so don’t try. Go for the ‘cant-live-without’ focal impact piece but then work to your venues strengths for the other smaller decor details.

4. Pre-assemble as much as you can on your decor before the day before. Adding string to hanging decor, wrapping favours, grouping table names cards and writing signage can be done before arriving at your venue. It’s going to mean more time to chill to the max the night before.

5. Keep continuity with your decor materials. I’m not saying stick to just one type of flower vessel and candle holder through the whole venue but if you have a key material or mix of materials then use them elsewhere from the tables onto the bar, cake table and beyond to keep your look consistent and thought through.

2017 WEDDING TREND DEMO – THE MOST UNUSUAL WEDDING FAIR.

I’m definitely still on a super high from The Most Unusual wedding fair at Godwick Barn last weekend…and still have a few new enquiries to catch up from all the gorgeous girls and gals that came to visit too. It was a fair full of inspo that was far from usual and I got behind the styling of it in a BIG way. I helped select the ‘Wild Bohemia’ theme of the fair and then set about creating it with Super sisters from Swaffham and Fakenham florists. From the outdoor ceremony area with our *Brand New* naked tipi structure to the interactive area and back drop.

Did you catch us on the Interactive area for our 2017 trends demo? HELLO if you we’re there, it was lovely to have you all listening in. I know it was a busy day so thought I’d drop the trends boars down here for a closer look if you were inspired by these new directions and they’re a little bit of you and your beau…

wild-bohemia

This one is for the free spirited brides and boys. Think barefoot aisle walking on a battered persian rugs through a meadow, paddock or woodland. Look to the natural, woods, wickers and linens. Choose dull brass vintage vessels and lanterns, and lots of candles in a mix of colours from maroon, mustard, soft pink and natural taupe colours. Add 70’s boho peacock chairs for a cool and cosy lounge area. Let the florals be wild, unruly and and asymmetrical and the food be totally seasonal and decadent with fresh berries and foliages.

modern-minimal-green-and-white

Clean. Green. Structured. This is definitely one trend for the cool kids. Industrial, minimal vibes and not a flower in sight. An abundance of cheese plant leaves, ferns, cactus, succulents and other tropical inspired plants and fauna are all you need in a mix of glass vessels. Add a touch of 2017’s hottest metal; copper, and you’re all set. Fill terrariums for centre pieces and dot with candles in mixed holders. Festoon lighting is a must and playing with fun signage is all part of this trend, from old peg boards, ply wood, light boxes and neon written signs. Get creative with your words.

natural-luxe

Timeless, feminine and with a causal luxurious feel. It’s an easy trend to take on board for your day; look at creating lots of texture through the foliage and floral choices and keep to a soft palette of nude, blush and soft olive greens. Lots of metallic golds and bronze will keep this romantic with all the candlelight you can bring. Reflections from mirrors and text on transparent surfaces feels new for this look. Use natural fabric drapes to create interesting backdrops or statement areas and embrace heavy flowing table linens in shades from the palette for the ultimate casual luxe look.

If you are looking for a little help with styling your day for 2017 or beyond drop us a note, we’re filling fast for key summer dates next year and taking a limited amount of sign writing for 2017 too.

Our newest wooden arch (that can be set up inside as well as outside) was my total favourite though. Dressed with tropical blooms and flowers by the Swaffham florist sisters and the hanging garlands really brought the tropics to Norwich.

I styled the catwalk space too, with our persian rugs lining the catwalk and peacock chairs set up on the staging it was boho perfection with lots of palm plants dotted in with green poled dressed by Jo Flowers. So looking forward to seeing the pro photos of all the dancing Bowie Ballerina models…
I also dressed gorgeous wooden trestles either side of the catwalk from Event House. Topped with our antlers and skulls, gold dipped candles and lots of brass and glass it was simple and modern. Again hit our IG for little snaps of the set up.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR WEDDING DIFFERENT TO EVERYONE ELSE’S.

Making your wedding different doesn’t mean you need to be totally mad and off the wall with your ideas. It’s just thinking about the things that make you two happiest as a couple.

Image via Nouba wedding blog.

Image via Nouba wedding blog.

What makes you two tick?
Let your world and your loves in life inspire your day. Don’t go changing what you love in real life just to make an ‘ideal’ wedding.
Take inspiration from what you do together; places you spend your Summers, music you dance to, art exhibitions you’ve loved, films you’ve laughed at, a poem that hangs in your home, a book you quote to each other, a person that inspires you, colours in your home…you get the gist.

Think outside the wedding box.
During the planning process keep a notebook and your camera with you at all times. This might sound obvious but you never know when inspiration will strike. You might hear a song lyric you’d love written up for a backdrop or you might see an incredible street artist with the perfect coloured pants for the grooms men…

Images via She is Magic Tumblr + Green wedding shoes.com

Step away from Pinterest.
Be inspired by who you are not by what others have done. It’s all too easy to get inspired by those pretty pins and want to do it just like they have. I’m a big Pinterest fan, use it but always let yourselves shape the day and the final design.

Bring a bit of yourselves to the reception.
Bring items you love from home to dress your venue, let your current obsessions in interior decor become part of the decor. Take inspiration from your hobbies. Think about using your nicknames if you’re not too worried about formalities. If there’s something you both own that everyone knows you for it should totally make the wedding decor.

Images via Brit.co + Intimate weddings.com

Get family and friends involved.
Friends and family will love being asked to get involved. Ask your family what they have tucked in garages and lofts, it’s bound to be a talking point on the day too. If you love looking back, maybe you have some old nostalgia tucked away that can be pulled out for the big day?

Let planning your wedding be a personal as possible, after all it’s all about the joining of two hearts and two families.

HOW TO FIND COOL WEDDING SUPPLIERS.

Being a unique, stylish couple can be the biggest blessing but also the biggest curse. Knowing what you want for your day feels so amazing, but along the way there will always be a little bit of compromise; from finding amazing decor pieces which are never ‘just up the road’ or are completely unaffordable to venue restrictions and family just not getting what you’re trying to achieve.

doughnut-lab2
Doughnut Lab : Uber cool local Norfolk company with Doughnuts to die for!

Getting your day, your way can feel like climbing a giant mountain. Don’t get disheartened, work out what’s truly important and a must-have for the day and put your efforts into making it a reality. I truly believe having a group of perfect wedding suppliers that have your back makes the whole thing so much easier. But how do you find them?!…

– Smaller, cooler and on-point suppliers can take some finding; don’t stop on page 1 of google, keep scrolling and using different search terms. Depending on your style or what you’re looking for, there’s always more than one way to search : Prop hire, Wedding decor, Event hire, Venue decor…

– Go social and search Instagram # and get really specific with those tag searches. Try searching more local tags to you e.g ‘#NorfolkWedding’, ‘NorwichWedding’ or # your local venues name to see who’s been there. I found our wedding DJ’s on Instagram through a photographers page who had commented on their photo, it really works!

– Facebook stalk, I mean really stalk! Look at pages liked by the pages you have liked already, be sure to get notifications from your favourite suppliers as collaborations they work on with local wedding folk could be right up your street.

– Check out cool wedding fair supplier lists : The Most Curious Fair’s directory is amazing for a pool of local, cool suppliers. Godwick Barn’s wedding fair in the Autumn also boasts some really quirky wedding suppliers too.

– Talk to suppliers you have booked for their recommendations. If you’re clicking with a supplier you’ve booked it’s more than likely you’ll have lots in common and they’ll know a heap of other suppliers you’d love. I’m always happy to help our couples stuck in a search rut.

– Just please don’t rush into booking a supplier out of desperation! Check them out across all their social sites, FB, IG, Pinterest and Twitter to see if you’re on the same page. When you get your suppliers right it will be a total joy and a breeze.

Dust with Cocoa : Creative local cake company that we’re crushin’ on.

How is your supplier search going?

INTIMATE CHAUCER BARN MID-SUMMER WEDDING.

Oh summer, I cannot wait to see you again. Mostly because we get to help set up and style more Norfolk weddings. It’s going to be fab.
We loved meeting and helping set up Julie and Matthews intimate pretty, pastel wedding at Chaucer Barn with our ‘Lend-a-hand‘ set up package in North Norfolk last summer.

Here’s what Julie had to say about us lending-a-hand.

“I loved thinking about the wedding and had an idea in my mind of how I wanted it to be, but I hated not knowing how to achieve it! Penny helped with this no end, both when we visited her to look at her collection of lends and when she lent a hand the day before to set everything up. She knew Chaucer Barn well so could visualise where we could put things and how much space there was and where etc.”

“I thought of our wedding as classy traditional, with a touch of modern vintage (if you know what I mean!). Lots of hessian and lace. If you have a vision but, like me, aren’t sure how to bring it to fruition, then I’d absolutely recommend chatting to Penny about your ideas and she is so unbelievably creative and can add so many brilliant ideas!”

“The lend-a-hand set up took the pressure off and helped me to get super excited about the venue! Penny really helped bring the wedding to life and I was so impressed by how out of her way she went to intertwine the things we had hired from her with the bits and pieces I’d sourced myself.”

I GOT 99 PROBLEMS BUT MY WEDDING STYLE AINT ONE.

You’re engaged and freaking out? You’re looking for a venue that has the WOW factor, you’ve not found ‘the dress’ despite going round 15 bridal shops, you’re still so far from finalising the menu and you can’t find a DJ that isn’t going to play YMCA and the birdie song…yep that’s wedding planning and trust me, it will all come good.

But please don’t let your wedding style be a problem.

Get back to you two, make some time at the start of your wedding planning to think about what you LOVE. Your life style and hobbies, favourite colours, fashion, interiors… Are you cool and chilled and love the idea of something a little off beat or have you always dreamed of dressing up and going glam for the big day? What’s your way of life, is your home full of eccentric, collected vintage pieces? If it is it should be part of your day. If you’re home is clean and minimal then don’t complicate a thing, that’s not you two.

Which of these wedding styles ticks your boxes?

BOHO BABES

FUN LOVIN’ LOVERS

LAID BACK RUSTICITY

It’s a good thing to nail your wedding vibes at the start, don’t compromise yourselves just because you think that’s what you ‘should’ be doing. It’s the biggest mistake you can make.

2016 WEDDING TREND REPORT.

2016 is going to be a great year to get married. More than ever weddings are about creating something completely unique and personal to you two. Forget what’s gone before and go with you. It’s fair to say we think all weddings should be totally fresh and all about the bride and groom so trends really shouldn’t matter…but we thought we’d delve into what’s going to be hot this coming year in the world of weddings as it might inspire your own plans and send you spiralling into a whildwind of new ideas to try.

CLUB TROPICANA

An abundence of palms, cocktails served from a trolley, tropical flowers and kitsch ornaments…Oh it’s so retro cool!
We’ve seen a rise in couples ditching flowers and going all green for their tables and bouquets and incorporating more palms, ferns and tropical leaves. It shouts fun and if that’s what you do are all about and want to create something a little less serious then jump on board this one.

CASUAL LUXE

Pantone announced their colours of the year as Rose Quartz and Serenity (a powdery blue.) They are subtle and definitely have a calming feeling about them. Casual opulence will become more accessible this year. From luxurious linens and opulent mixes of materials on the table; marble plates to copper cutlery. Simple beauty is at the heart of this movement; from the modern calligraphy hand-written stationery sent on the invites to the beautiful silk ribbons on the bouquet. Dressing venues with lots of flickering candle light in brass and crystal cut candle stick holders will be a must and providing guests with a styled lounge area to retire to in the evening will make any reception oh-so civilised.

GO BIG OR GO HOME

Let the focal point be all about the ‘I do’s.’ Making your ceremony backdrop the focus has never been bigger. Literally bigger, think big backdrops, big hanging floral statements and big sentiment. Go big, or go home. We’ve lots more ideas for ceremony ideas on our Pinterest this way. Geometric shapes and patterns and more metal stands and frames will be used through decor too and we can’t wait to start sourcing more for our growing range with this in mind.

SIGN IT OUT

Signage has been coming into it’s own the last year, but I’m loving the fresh new ways of signing your space. Be witty, fun and a little silly for maximum impact. From seeing your name in lights to bespoke couples motifs and banners let your imagination run wild and your signage be a big talking point.

Are you getting pulling in any of these themes into your day? Or maybe a mix of them all? We always love to talk wedding decor and if you’re still a little baffled by it all we’d be happy to help.

We’d like to wish all our lenders past and present the most amazing year ahead. May your 2016 be filled with light and laughter and a lot of love.
