HOW TO FIND COOL WEDDING SUPPLIERS.

Being a unique, stylish couple can be the biggest blessing but also the biggest curse. Knowing what you want for your day feels so amazing, but along the way there will always be a little bit of compromise; from finding amazing decor pieces which are never ‘just up the road’ or are completely unaffordable to venue restrictions and family just not getting what you’re trying to achieve.

Doughnut Lab : Uber cool local Norfolk company with Doughnuts to die for!

Getting your day, your way can feel like climbing a giant mountain. Don’t get disheartened, work out what’s truly important and a must-have for the day and put your efforts into making it a reality. I truly believe having a group of perfect wedding suppliers that have your back makes the whole thing so much easier. But how do you find them?!…

– Smaller, cooler and on-point suppliers can take some finding; don’t stop on page 1 of google, keep scrolling and using different search terms. Depending on your style or what you’re looking for, there’s always more than one way to search : Prop hire, Wedding decor, Event hire, Venue decor…

– Go social and search Instagram # and get really specific with those tag searches. Try searching more local tags to you e.g ‘#NorfolkWedding’, ‘NorwichWedding’ or # your local venues name to see who’s been there. I found our wedding DJ’s on Instagram through a photographers page who had commented on their photo, it really works!

– Facebook stalk, I mean really stalk! Look at pages liked by the pages you have liked already, be sure to get notifications from your favourite suppliers as collaborations they work on with local wedding folk could be right up your street.

– Check out cool wedding fair supplier lists : The Most Curious Fair’s directory is amazing for a pool of local, cool suppliers. Godwick Barn’s wedding fair in the Autumn also boasts some really quirky wedding suppliers too.

– Talk to suppliers you have booked for their recommendations. If you’re clicking with a supplier you’ve booked it’s more than likely you’ll have lots in common and they’ll know a heap of other suppliers you’d love. I’m always happy to help our couples stuck in a search rut.

– Just please don’t rush into booking a supplier out of desperation! Check them out across all their social sites, FB, IG, Pinterest and Twitter to see if you’re on the same page. When you get your suppliers right it will be a total joy and a breeze.

HOW TO LIGHT UP YOUR WEDDING VENUE.

38e7340d5cc27d3b204631b2a6aeb1cc
Image via The Merry Thought.com

You’ve probably not given your lighting at your wedding much thought right? You’d be surprised how much lighting can transform your wedding space to from standard to stand out. Lighting creates mood and when it’s done well it will make everything look better, including you. From the cake, flowers, tables and more it’s worth the shedding a little light (pardon the pun) on your lighting ideas.

0b2b8536f38335662b35605c6deac0a5
Image via Flickr.

Here are our top tips and some beautiful lighting inspiration you could consider.

We suggest to visit your wedding venue at least once when it’s dark outside. Look at existing lighting at the venue and where it’s focused. Lights that illuminate the walls, windows, and ceiling draw attention away from the center of the room and you want to focus attention on the tables, dance floor, and each other.

Ask if the site has dimmers for their overhead lights and who will be able to control this on the wedding day. If there’s any florescent lighting, keep it turned off! If the kitchens have bright lights be sure to keep the doors closed to avoid ruining your lighting atmosphere.

Do ask the technical questions too about how much power you can plug in at the venue from maximum amps too with your lighting plans. Check where all the sockets are too so you can be sure to bring enough extension cables if it’s not near where you plan to have your feature.

Consider a pin spot light for a focal point, your W-day cake, grazing station, favours or centre piece perhaps.

Maybe you’re thinking of a lighting backdrop for your ceremony?

Use lighting to change the mood through the course of the evening. Go soft, warm light and an abundance of candlelight for your wedding breakfast. Cocktail hour glowing orange light and step up the fun factor when the dancing starts with light up boards or letters and all the focus on the dance floor.

Get Practical lighting up your outdoor space. Bright festoons are the perfect solution, you may need some flood lighting to keep guests safe. If your site has a path or steps that people will be using throughout the night, keep it lit with candles or lanterns.

Go bold with a big lighting statement. Hanging lighting features over tables are having a big moment. Light up sign-writing and letters still add fun. We’ve pinned lots of different lighting ideas on our Pinterest and still love what candle light can do for your tables; they bounce light onto the flowers, crockery, cutlery and table glasses so perfectly. Think about brass and glass candle stick holders to really let the light shine around your centrepieces.

WE’RE 2 YEARS OLD…

What?! When did we get to be two years old….?

Image via Flickr. More Party Pins this way.

I just can’t believe we’ve been doing this for 2 years. I think I’ve just been having too much fun to notice that it’s been 2 whole years. Right now our teeth are most firmly stuck into our busiest part of wedding season with deliveries and collections flying in and out as well as styling set up’s and pack downs. The show shed looks like a bomb went off, the hubby is tearing is hair out (if he had any!) over the state of our kitchen full of glasswear to wash and I’m often burning the candle at both ends trying to manage the inbox, but honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m having a blast!

I do tend to go a little gushy on our year posts, but I’m going to keep this one short and sweet. THANK YOU.
Each and everyone of you that continues to keep our little lending dreams afloat; every wonderful little lender this year, fellow facebookers, instagram follower, industry sidekick and general little lending lovers you rock and wouldn’t get to do this everyday with your your support. I’m so thankful you’ve got my back.

To show our appreciation to you all, we’re going to give you a little birthday treat. For all brand new enquires until the end of August we’re offering 10% the total of your orders over £100. Just quote BIRTHDAY10 somewhere in your email or message to us.

Our biggest thanks,

G & T LIGHT UP LETTERS PHOTOSHOOT.

You guys must think I’m forever on photo shoots! Lately it feels like I am hopping from one to another and never get to show you the full results, just those little sneak peeks on our Instagram. So that’s why to feels great to share these shots from Tatum Reid Photography of a product shoot from the winter with G & T Typography.

We headed to a scrap yard, full of eerie charm and shot on old cars, fire engines and used derelict houses as a back drop. I took along my ladder and plank for one of the set ups.

We then headed to a forgotten little barn and filled with smaller props form the range to compliment the letters and shapes. From little wooden drawers, stoneware bottles, potted plants and lanterns I created little pockets of detail around those pretty awesome lights.

For the bigger set we used our trolley, small rug and hanging lamp shades to set the scene and popped in books and antlers for a cool, eclectic home feel contrasted against our industrial surrounds.

BOTANICAL GREENHOUSE SHOOT AS FEATURED ON BURNETTES BOARDS.

Botanical Shoot LMD-1064

‘Botanical beauty with an underlying industrial edge, set in an over-grown Orangery. Scientific glass wear juxtaposed against luscious green walls of foliage and organic natural growth. Oversized florals, demi-naked stacked cakes and wine coloured foods, deep back dresses all make for some punchy bridal inspiration.’

Stradsett Hall in Norfolk hosts the most gorgeous orangery, with greenery scaling the walls. I was so excited to use this as the backdrop to this shoot, blown away by all the glass walls, natural light and terracotta tiled floors. I’ve been really into all the lush green pins on Pinterest too and seems green is the only way to go with naturally enhanced venues packed with seasonal blooms and foliage – plus this can really help cut costs on floristry. Win win.

The aesthetic of mixing overgrown foliage with more delicate soft cotton heads, feathery ferns in our mini glass medicine bottles on a bed of moss created by Flower 30. Sharon used Snowberry, Moss, Birch bark pieces, Steel grass, leather leaves and asparagus fern. Our log blocks and brass candle sticks we’re then dotted through among cotton stems, Allium, Hellebores, Amaranthus and Rosemary.

The bouquet by Flower 30 was oversized and beyond breathtaking. Bold and brave florals have our heart and can’t wait to see more of this coming through with bouquets. I especially loved the mix of large plan leaves and colourful deep red tails of Amaranthus. Twigs of plums, asparagus ferns and leather leaves were also worked into this. White fluffy cotton heads are a welcome new texture.

The juxtaposition of industrial and Scientific pieces against the raw botanical space gave the shoot a modern twist with our period pieces. From cylinders of glass and science room stands and equipment bearing stems and foliage to old dark wooden library card drawers filled with curious bottles.

Anna our gorgeous model, wore Katrine Morgensen’s dresses so effortlessly. With a plunging V back shape and slinky, figure fitting silhouette for the first dress. Draped and tucked back fabric details and rolled roses, even our dress was botanical! Finished with a pretty little lace trim and made with 100% ivory sand washed silk.

Kirsty at Zany Boutique worked a truly earthy feel on hair, Taking Anna’s hair from a bob and transforming it to give it more flow and versatility, using clip in real hair extensions. Kirsty created soft flowing curls with a little oil keeping the shine. Fishtail plaits were worked into to each side of Anna’s hair then tousled them to give them a more worn look, and entwined them all together at the back. Finished with foliage on top of the plaits to give an alternative to the much loved flower crown.

Ezme Isgate our MUA created a beautiful matte base set with luminous pressed powder and then added a simple rose blush to the apples of the cheeks. A latte coloured eye shadow was applied all over the lid – Finished with luxurious lashes and a pale pink lip butter.

Wholesome, rich colours were used on the foods provided by Stradsett Hall. Speckled quails eggs and cucumber sandwiches brought classic quirk to the table. Casually presented chocolate and hazelnut biscotti biscuits and rose and pistachio meringues were served on wooden slices. A rustic fig and blackberry tart added colour amongst our green table along with Blackberry and black cherry macaroons and white highlights of coconut cupcakes. We created a ladder dessert stand; stacking the desserts up on the steps for a new way to display treats.

Buns of Fun created a demi-naked vanilla sponge stack that was lavished with a delicious milk and vanilla-pod seeded buttercream. For a decadent feel Buns’ tumbled sliced whole fresh figs on top, seasonal autumnal juicy blackberries and fragrant passion fruit, adding aromatic Rosemary stems and Passiflora vines to decorate.

Mimolo added some luxe with her stationery with botanical hand illustrated invitations with sketches of a wreath design with berries and cow parsley. A matching envelope with crisp calligraphy looked so good together. Simple escort cards were strung across our textural well-worn green door with little snippets of green ivy heads and leaves pegged on.

For the second look, Katrine Morgensens Grace dress with the most delicate lace overlay detail and covered button back. It was decorated with gorgeous glass beads and paneling of lace added into the trumpet skirt.
Kirsty added style dust to the hair giving more lift and volume. This gave more of a raw, undone look with a little iridescence from the shimmery dust. A loose fishtail braid was worked through Anna’s hair, draping it over her shoulder, and finished off by tousling the hair and adding more foliage and white berries. Anna wore a bright copper hairband with delicate 3d floral detail by Melissa Morgan Designs. Ezme added black gel liner winging it out at the outer eye and a touch of gold glitter liner to in inner eye.
This look was completed with a deep berry plum on the lips for a brave bridal look.

A second bouquet by Flower 30 was green and glorious. Foliage freshly picked, loose and textural . Fuss free but still as striking in a deep forest green shade.

Our soft white festoon lights were strung across the tall steps and into the green back wall for the final part for the shoot with little glass bottles on the steps along with White wire lamp shades with jars of cotton heads for an eclectic back drop.

10 FAB WEDDING LOUNGE SPACES.

Wedding Lounging is so hot right now. Giving your guests somewhere comfortable and informal to relax into your day is just about the best solution to the ‘afternoon lull’ that everyone talks about. Stuffed to the brim with delicious wedding food and booze, all you actually want to do is curl up in the corner and have a breather for an hour. Little Lenders, give the people what they want…

1 // LIVING ROOM LOUNGING
Create the ultimate ‘lounge experience’ with guest feeling right at home. Cue mixed British design furniture, kitsch lamp shades strung above and textured cushions for this look.

2 // HAYBALING
Yup, still a firm favourite for rustic and country weddings – the hay bale sofa. Throw over some crochet blankets for a little more comfort which would also come in handy for the evening setting in. Fire pits are the perfect accompaniment. Guests will love this, trust us.

3 // BOHEMIA DEN
Create a secret bohemian den under the trees with soft drapes. Lay mixed persian rugs and cushions for real laid back vibes. Hanging features above look divine to really make an impact and festoon lights for when darkness falls.

4 // DECKCHAIR DELIGHT

5 // ECCLECTIC COOL
This space is everything. One off pieces, mixes of bold patterns, colour and texture. Bohemian brides are going to love this. Center and side tables with floral and small decor details looks really rad and double up as somewhere for guests to rest drinks.

6 // INDIVIDUAL SPACES

8 // CINEMA CHILLING
This idea I am mad about. I actually wanted to create this at our own day but couldn’t pull it off in time. Share your ceremony with evening guests that might not have seen you say ‘I do’ or why not create a video of you and your new hubby’s highlights through the years.

10 // DIY TIPI

HELLO 2015.

94fd6c40eb1fc79b02e5187a1a515759

It’s taken me a few days (probably because I was still full of Christmas cheese and Disaronno) but I am finally excited to get started on this year. Who’s with me?

With so much to look forward to and the Little Lending 2015 diary filling up for another busy season ahead I’m going to embrace this new year energy.
Each and every day I’ll try to fill with a new possibility – ‘When your mind is open the opportunity is endless’ don’t they say.

I hope to continue on with the Little Lending ethos of providing original, timeless inspiration to creative, stylish couples planning their wedding day this year. There will be more new products coming your way, more styled shoots and collaborations with other local suppliers to give you ideas of how to style our growing assortment of props. Plus you can meet us at some of our favourite wedding fairs across Norfolk too. (Just keep an eye on our Facebook page for info of fairs we’ll be at.)

We’ve been busy scribbling ideas down for more blog posts too and next week there will be our look at emerging 2015 wedding trends that we love and actually want to jump on board with. Plus more posts with helpful tips and DIY ideas you might want to try. We’re also uber excited about being a B.loved blog contributor this year and have a few ideas in our pipeline we’re working on exclusively for them.

And if you’ve followed us a while on Instagram, you may have spotted behind the scenes snaps on our Botanical concept shoot back in October. But next week we’ll be able to share all the inspiration as we’re featured on a brilliant international wedding blog. Hooray!

Wishing you all an awesome year and if you’re a 2015 Little Lender we are ridiculously excited for you.

(A little added important note for our Little Lenders this year : If you have pencilled items in with us this year we do require a booking deposit to secure them for your date and sadly cannot hold items as the Summer months are looking incredibly busy.)

2015, Let’s do this…

Penny @ The Little Lending Co. x

A WONDERFUL LITTLE YEAR.

A GREAT BIG THANKYOU

Woah, here we are at the end of the year again. For me it was a total whirlwind of a year. I don’t know about you but as the year draws to a close it’s always a time I think about just how far I’ve come in those 12 little months.

Just yesterday I counted up all the lovely little lenders we’d had during 2014 and there were 92! An incredible bunch of people we got to meet and work with in our first full year of trading. I just loved helping each and everyone of you create your wedding day vision. Our dream of running this company isn’t possible without you, so thankyou for your support of our little company – The kind words, the comments, the likes and shares on social media, they all make you the best bunch of followers a girl could ask for. Your wedding excitement just makes us smile each day, and I know I have definitely found my calling.

I love that we all share the same vision for this wedding world we’re in. Let’s make 2015 even more creative, together we can achieve so much and I can’t wait to work with you all again on more stylish ideas.

WE GOT LUCKY

This year I got lucky – Like really, super lucky when I won an unbelievable prize to attend a wedding academy with We are Flourish and Prosper. It was beyond inspirational. I learnt a lot to help my little company grow into something much bigger (not without a lot of hard work of course) but I feel more energised to keep striving to make my dreams a reality. Since the academy I’ve already made some small but significant changes, and got a whopping great big confidence kick that I needed from some amazing women in this industry.

I was also asked to join the B.Loved contributors network. I’ll be working on some rather exciting collaborations and submissions for the most luxe and lovely blog on the internet. Beyond excited to be a part of their community and such a huge honour to sit along side some of the most creative and exciting companies in the wedding sphere.

FABULOUS FEATURES

Some highlights of the year have to be seeing our styled shoots featured online and in print. Back in April I worked with Tatum Reid Photography on my first collaborative shoot ‘A Modern Fairytale’ that was featured on B.Loved blog. Full of pretty, whimsical details I brought antlers, books, candles and log slices to the table quite literally.

It was in May I had a fantastic ‘Loved by Coco’ feature on Coco Wedding Venues with the first of my own styled shoots. A ‘Beautiful Boudoir’ shoot, that had all the charm of an English rose Garden with a modern twist.

Festival Brides featured something a little different in July, an Earthy dessert table, modern and fresh succulents and cactus we’re the focus for this concept. And our first full styled shoot hit the internet on Whimsical Wonderland Weddings in August. Country Manor esq and full of intimacy and opulence, I was as proud as punch to have this featured.

Coco Wedding Venues asked us for some top styling tips for styling a Rustic venue and the shoot was featured in September. It was a great opportunity to get out some of our most treasured pieces and show how to use them to make the most of your relaxed spaces.

This is all to work towards bringing more innovation and creativity to the table and to you, our little lenders through our blog posts and styling collaborations. I can’t wait to see the new year in, there will be more big plans for Little Lending range too of course, I think you’re going to like what we’ve got up our sleeves!

We’d like to wish you all a very merry christmas and a wonderful new year ahead!

See you on the other side,
