PASTEL SPRING TIPI WEDDING AT BAWDON LODGE FARM.

I get asked to deliver outside of Norfolk quite often, but it takes a special email to convince me to cross over the borders. When I heard about Michelle and Kyles wedding in a giant tipi at Bawdon Lodge in Loughborough I knew it would be very special.

Michelle hired lots of our props to dress the tipi. The couple are keen cyclists which totally explains the bike hire which features in their couples photography and our bike wheel dressed up to the nines for their table plan. Check out the mini wire bike cake toppers too, C-ute!

Our large glass vessels were filled with little lights which I adore and our wooden table boxes were used on the long trestle tables full of pretty pastel spring blooms. The one on the back of the bike gave me all the hearts for eyes.

It’s all pretty gorgeous right and what about the plank of suspended flowers and cascading lights against the tipi wall too? So much wedding goodness! And snow in April, certainly didn’t stop them having a total blast!

A huge thanks to Voyteck Photography for letting us share these gorgeous photos.
Michelle and Kyle we wish you all the happiness in the world.

DECOR DETAILS AT THE GEORGIAN TOWNHOUSE.

One of the best things about running this little company is when I’m sent the professional photos of how our little props we’re used. Every lender always creates something a little different with our pieces so it’s always such a joy to see our props in their fullest glory. So when one of our lovely Summer brides sent these through I just beamed.

I absolutely love the simple wild florals on our log slices by Bramble and Berry and little succulents by The Little Leaves. The dark and moody wall colour in The Georgian Townhouse just makes everything pop.

Simple rustic cake with pressed flowers by Buns of Fun is a firm favourite too, something so wonderful about a cake wrapped in greenery. The couple also used our blackboard clipboard for their table plan and numbered water bottles as table numbers. Perfection right?

Thanks so much to our lovely lenders K & A for sharing these with us. If any of our 2015 lenders have any awesome professional images you’d be happy to share we’d love to see them too.

HOW MUCH WEDDING DECOR DO I NEED?

e13ee626d2f5d18f76b9db72ed0e2b0a

First off, there is no ‘one set fits all’ general rule here, but I am always asked ‘How much decor do we need to make it look good?’
I always think it’s about really using what you have in the space you have more than how many props you throw at a venue…

Customising your venue spaces to reflect you both as a couple is becoming huge, it’s about creating something totally unique and personalised with more couples wanting their day to be WOW in every way.

Our lenders have said they don’t want their venues to look barron and empty, with a blank canvas venue the panic can set in. Do I need to add more to my order I’m asked? Without knowing how you plan to use the venue its really so hard to say. But with four bare walls and a roof, anything is possible if you have the imagination. If the thought of filling your space fills you with dread, we’re on hand with our styling services, where we’ll visit your venue and make suggestions for props and decor placement and put your mind at rest.

But if you’re a DIY pair, I would always start by listing the main key areas of your venue and the amount of time people will spend there and which areas will be well photographed:

ENTRANCE – Guests will be here just a few moments but it’s so worth creating something fab to set off your space.

CEREMONY – Lots of photos taken here so be sure to add lots of pretty at the head of the aisle.

TABLES – A few hours spent here but be sure to make the top table and bride and grooms place settings special.

FOOD TABLES – A few moments through the day but give your cake (if you have one) a rad platform to shine.

BAR – Just a few moments through the evening you’re guests will be here (unless they’re propping it up!), I’d always add plenty of candle light for your evening bar space, to give guests somewhere more relaxing that the dance space.

DANCE FLOOR – Here you can have some fun, from Pinatas to giant balloons and signage. This area should say Party.

METAL : THE MUST-HAVE WEDDING DECOR MATERIAL.

Back at the start of the year we predicted big things for industrial weddings in our 2015 WEDDING TRENDS post – bare brick wall back drops, exposed pipe work, bulb lighting with accents of copper and concrete coming through. And this hot trend is only getting hotter. I’m mad for mixing metals into my styling right now. From wire crates and baskets, metal signs and lights to big metal chained hanging centre pieces – it’s the must-have material going forward. Trust me.

WIRE GRID.
Loving wire frames and grids as an update to wooden boards. Cool for backdrops shown here but also table plans or escort cards. Try pegging on polaroid snaps or for order of the day for guests to pick up. They’re just plain rad.

METAL TABLE NUMBERS.
Pairing metals with wood is a match made in heaven. Our table numbers recently added to the range just add a little shine to your table tops, keeping things rustic but giving them that new metal vibe.

THE TIN CAN.
The humble tin can should not be underestimated. Super-size them and you have simple floral containers or keep them small for candle light (there’s totally a DIY in there by punching cool patterns or initials into the sides too.)

METAL POST BOX.
Looking for an idea for your cards storage? The postbox is a timelessly retro piece that fits in perfectly in old barns and warehouses alike. Add blooms or potted succulents around them and sit along side your guest book.

METAL FILING DRAWERS.
Becoming super popular on wedding blogs are Metal filing drawers, fill with flowers to soften them up or sweet treats sit in them perfectly. They’d work well for escort cards too or for somewhere for guests to pick up their favours.

METAL LETTERING.
So big was the light up letters trend that metal signage is going to be sticking around for a while yet. Our rusty bar letters looking so good here as part of a welcome drinks station at The Keeper and the Dell. We used wooden crates with metal accents to create this station for real touches of industrial chic. From the vintage metal shop scales to metal filing drawers and tins we think it’s the perfect update material for 2015 and beyond.

5 WAYS TO SAVE MONEY ON YOUR WEDDING DECOR.

Decorating your wedding can be expensive but we’ve pulled together these top 5 tips to really help free up the bucks for dresses, rings and honeymoon cocktails….Think ahead with your and details and you can really make some sizeable savings.

#1 CHOOSE A VENUE THAT SUITS YOUR DECOR STYLE

This is our biggest decor saving tip – if you aren’t working with what’s already there you’ll find yourself spending extra a £££ to create a look that could have been already in place. If you’re looking for a rustic laid back day the venue should represent that with bare brick barn walls and pretty pockets of outdoor space that you can use to your advantage with your decor – Filling cubby holes with tea lights and stringing lanterns from trees.

Made From Scratch.

#2 DONT GET CARRIED AWAY

What do you really want from your decor? Where do you want to create the most impact? Often wedding venues can be pretty big and daunting spaces to fill. Think about creating one space that you go all out for on your decor; the entrance, the ceremony aisle, the bar or the dance floor. You really don’t need to do it all. Less honestly is more sometimes with decor. Minimal styling is also so hot right now!
One top tip to make your venue look completely magical with a few £ would be tea lights in all your areas and leading from one area to the next – hundreds of tea lights! Your photos will be magical too.

#3 GO DIY FOR YOUR DECOR

We’re huge fans of DIY, it’s personal and unique and can save fortunes if you’re a crafty bride. From stationery to favours you can really add some ‘you two’ into your day this way. You’d be surprised how many friends and family will come forward with fabric scraps, packs of card and cans of spray paint when you let them know about your decor projects.
But do a few sums first, when you start DIYing in bulk things can really add up and you might not be saving as much as you think.

#4 BE CLEVER WITH YOUR FLOWERS

It’s definatley worth really talking thorough your floral thoughts with your florist. Go for local and seasonal flowers. If you need the imported annenomes in July (Like me!) you’re going to have to pay for them. Ask about ‘filler’ flowers or foliage that’s cheaper against your more expensive blooms like peonies and roses. Why not think about re-using flowers from the church/ceremony into your decor again, by the entrance doors and food/cake displays. One way of spending less on flowers is having bigger tables at your venue for fewer centrepieces or opt for glass bottles or bud vases so you need fewer stems. You can also fill in with lanterns on your table tops or other non-floral props.
If you’re a DIY bride you might want to consider a course to learn how to do your own flowers for the day. Check out The Country Garden Florist locally to learn bouquets, button holes and more. Flowers can be brought through a local wholesaler, but it may take a while to find one that orders for the public and not just trade.

#5 BEG, STEAL, BORROW AND HIRE

Call in the favours – it’s not what you know it’s who you know. Think about all your friends and families skills; a graphics guru, carpenter, calligrapher etc and use them to help create bespoke decor for your day, your way. They might be so happy to be involved that they offer to do it for you as a wedding gift. Ask your family if you can rummage in their garages, from old planks of wood to transform to half used tins of paint there could be some ‘junk’ you could save from buying.
If you are planning on buying any decor, think about it as an investment, if you will love and cherish it at home after the wedding then do it – if not and it will end up on Ebay really consider hiring your decor. It’s about 1/3 of the price to hire and you won’t have the hassle after the big day to shift it.
Hiring a planner can actually save you money too, they know how to haggle and have great relationships with local vendors to find you the best deals on your do.
