TROPICAL DECOR WEDDING AT WAXHAM BARN.

Literally one of the best perks of having this little company is the joy from seeing the professional pictures of our props set up and looking rad in their full wedding setting. It’s just the best.
These detail shots are from a late September wedding by JMA photography at Waxham Great Barn near the cost in South Norfolk.

The table decor was a mix of bright florals by Swaffham Florists who filled our vintage brass vessels and bowls with a mix of seasonal flowers and succulents. Mixed with pineapples and retro travel postcards this rocked. You might just spy the off loose antler too. Ecclectic table props at its best.

The ceremony saw our indoor wooden arch with popping pink blooms and an aisle with persian pink rugs finished the look. I adore this against the soft textural barn brick walls.

Our drinks station with striped straws added some fun to the welcome drinks and we helped with some hand written signage for the welcome and order of the day too.

The awesome light up signs are by The Vintage Wedding sign company, who we’re also the bride and groom! Huge congrats to Nadine and Andrew, hope you are both loving married life.

Does this wedding float your boat? Are you throwing the rule book out the window for the ultimate in relaxed wedding decor?

2017 WEDDING TREND DEMO – THE MOST UNUSUAL WEDDING FAIR.

I’m definitely still on a super high from The Most Unusual wedding fair at Godwick Barn last weekend…and still have a few new enquiries to catch up from all the gorgeous girls and gals that came to visit too. It was a fair full of inspo that was far from usual and I got behind the styling of it in a BIG way. I helped select the ‘Wild Bohemia’ theme of the fair and then set about creating it with Super sisters from Swaffham and Fakenham florists. From the outdoor ceremony area with our *Brand New* naked tipi structure to the interactive area and back drop.

Did you catch us on the Interactive area for our 2017 trends demo? HELLO if you we’re there, it was lovely to have you all listening in. I know it was a busy day so thought I’d drop the trends boars down here for a closer look if you were inspired by these new directions and they’re a little bit of you and your beau…

wild-bohemia

This one is for the free spirited brides and boys. Think barefoot aisle walking on a battered persian rugs through a meadow, paddock or woodland. Look to the natural, woods, wickers and linens. Choose dull brass vintage vessels and lanterns, and lots of candles in a mix of colours from maroon, mustard, soft pink and natural taupe colours. Add 70’s boho peacock chairs for a cool and cosy lounge area. Let the florals be wild, unruly and and asymmetrical and the food be totally seasonal and decadent with fresh berries and foliages.

modern-minimal-green-and-white

Clean. Green. Structured. This is definitely one trend for the cool kids. Industrial, minimal vibes and not a flower in sight. An abundance of cheese plant leaves, ferns, cactus, succulents and other tropical inspired plants and fauna are all you need in a mix of glass vessels. Add a touch of 2017’s hottest metal; copper, and you’re all set. Fill terrariums for centre pieces and dot with candles in mixed holders. Festoon lighting is a must and playing with fun signage is all part of this trend, from old peg boards, ply wood, light boxes and neon written signs. Get creative with your words.

natural-luxe

Timeless, feminine and with a causal luxurious feel. It’s an easy trend to take on board for your day; look at creating lots of texture through the foliage and floral choices and keep to a soft palette of nude, blush and soft olive greens. Lots of metallic golds and bronze will keep this romantic with all the candlelight you can bring. Reflections from mirrors and text on transparent surfaces feels new for this look. Use natural fabric drapes to create interesting backdrops or statement areas and embrace heavy flowing table linens in shades from the palette for the ultimate casual luxe look.

If you are looking for a little help with styling your day for 2017 or beyond drop us a note, we’re filling fast for key summer dates next year and taking a limited amount of sign writing for 2017 too.

ALTERNATIVE WEDDING INSPO AT THE KEEPER AND THE DELL.

For those of us that have followed us for a while you’ll know we love a photoshoot. It’s a chance to get together with like minded people and get those creative juices flowing. And theres always a new prop buy I’ve been wanting to style up…

So last year Lolly at The Keeper and the Dell asked us if we’d like to be involved with a shoot over at her incredible venue. A chilled out, eclectic shoot with Norfolk’s coolest suppliers with all the love and glamour of a Mediterranean gathering to be a loose theme of the day. In Lolly from The Keeper and the Dell’s words, “Imagine an artistic/celebrity couple with a true eclectic edge, wanting to marry in crazy England but with a Mediterranean connection. Capturing the feel of photographer Tim Walker (but staying this side of crazy) with the glorious glamour feel of a Dolce & Gabbana family gathering.”

Well it was just that. Extravagant staging, boho styling, romantic motifs, bold colours, a powerful sense of family and above all, a strong editorial shooting style….

I GOT 99 PROBLEMS BUT MY WEDDING STYLE AINT ONE.

You’re engaged and freaking out? You’re looking for a venue that has the WOW factor, you’ve not found ‘the dress’ despite going round 15 bridal shops, you’re still so far from finalising the menu and you can’t find a DJ that isn’t going to play YMCA and the birdie song…yep that’s wedding planning and trust me, it will all come good.

But please don’t let your wedding style be a problem.

Get back to you two, make some time at the start of your wedding planning to think about what you LOVE. Your life style and hobbies, favourite colours, fashion, interiors… Are you cool and chilled and love the idea of something a little off beat or have you always dreamed of dressing up and going glam for the big day? What’s your way of life, is your home full of eccentric, collected vintage pieces? If it is it should be part of your day. If you’re home is clean and minimal then don’t complicate a thing, that’s not you two.

Which of these wedding styles ticks your boxes?

It’s a good thing to nail your wedding vibes at the start, don’t compromise yourselves just because you think that’s what you ‘should’ be doing. It’s the biggest mistake you can make.

10 FAB WEDDING LOUNGE SPACES.

Wedding Lounging is so hot right now. Giving your guests somewhere comfortable and informal to relax into your day is just about the best solution to the ‘afternoon lull’ that everyone talks about. Stuffed to the brim with delicious wedding food and booze, all you actually want to do is curl up in the corner and have a breather for an hour. Little Lenders, give the people what they want…

1 // LIVING ROOM LOUNGING
Create the ultimate ‘lounge experience’ with guest feeling right at home. Cue mixed British design furniture, kitsch lamp shades strung above and textured cushions for this look.

Rock my wedding

2 // HAYBALING
Yup, still a firm favourite for rustic and country weddings – the hay bale sofa. Throw over some crochet blankets for a little more comfort which would also come in handy for the evening setting in. Fire pits are the perfect accompaniment. Guests will love this, trust us.

e0a147b92b287929684945ca08932af3

3 // BOHEMIA DEN
Create a secret bohemian den under the trees with soft drapes. Lay mixed persian rugs and cushions for real laid back vibes. Hanging features above look divine to really make an impact and festoon lights for when darkness falls.

4 // DECKCHAIR DELIGHT
Bring a little nostalgia into the mix with mis-matched striped deckchairs. So British. ‘Bride and Groom’ chair backs adds a extra little detail and a smile to faces.

5 // ECCLECTIC COOL
This space is everything. One off pieces, mixes of bold patterns, colour and texture. Bohemian brides are going to love this. Center and side tables with floral and small decor details looks really rad and double up as somewhere for guests to rest drinks.

6 // INDIVIDUAL SPACES
Want to give your guests a little alone time while you have yours? Individual rugs and cushions scattered outside do just that. Perfect too if you’re planning a picnic wedding.

7 // ALL PILE ON
Or go the other way, create a great big pile of rugs and cushions – Free for all! Trays and low tables with lanterns and places for drinks keep this practical.

8 // CINEMA CHILLING
This idea I am mad about. I actually wanted to create this at our own day but couldn’t pull it off in time. Share your ceremony with evening guests that might not have seen you say ‘I do’ or why not create a video of you and your new hubby’s highlights through the years.

9 // LOW DOWN LOUNGE
With pouffes and upturned halved barrels this is all about getting guests to go low. Not one for the oldies but your pals are going to get right into this. The perfect spot to relax after cutting some rug on the dance floor.

10 // DIY TIPI
Create your own tipi filled with cosy cushions for couples piled at the back. Also a sweet spot for a couple of styled shots with your photographer on the day. With crochet bunting dotted above and jam jar tea lights leading a pathway in the evening this is beyond cute right?

I met the lovely Betina on the styling for Most Curious Wedding fair, we dressed the catwalk in a Palm Springs theme. Mid-centrury furniture, crochet hanging panels, plastic flamingoes and bright rugs…but it was this hanging macrame from Betina I could not stop ogling over.

This is not a quick DIY, so be a little patient as it’s totally worth every minuite knotting. I’m going to hand over to Betina who writes the most gorgeous interiors blog; Frida + Florentina. To make this lots simpler Betina has colour coded the strings in an easy step-by-step guide. Give it a go why don’t you…

IMG_9107 copy copy

1. Tie four strands together.

IMG_9110 copy

2. Take the outer right strand (green) and pass it to the left side over the other middle two strands. Take the outer left strand (blue) and pass it underneath the green strand, behind the middle strands, and over the green strand on the other side.

IMG_9111 copy-2

3. Pull the two strands tight. Now you just reverse what you did in the first step.

IMG_9114 copy

4. Repeat steps 1-3 with four more strands to make another knot right next to your first knot. Bring the two rightmost strands of the first knot to make a new group with the leftmost two strands of the second knot.

IMG_9115 copy

5. Repeat your basic knot with the new group by taking the outer right strand (pink) and passing it to the left side over the middle two strands. Take the outer left strand (purple) and pass it underneath the pink strand, behind the middle strands, and over the pink strand on the other side.

IMG_9118 copy

6. Pull the two strands tight. Now reverse the first step.

IMG_9120 copy

7. Divide the middle group of strands by moving the two leftmost strands left and the two rightmost strands right. Repeat the basic knot with both the groups and continue this process until you have done as many rows as you would like.

Well how did you go?…Got yourself hooked on neatly knotting?

A GUIDE TO HANGING CENTREPIECES.

UP. That’s the way you want your guests to be looking if all these hanging decor delights we’ve been collecting are anything to go by. Let me tell you now, this is going to be a huge deal in 2015. String it up, Tie it up, knot it up, rig it up…Just get it up! There’s a few ways you can go with these new hanging get-ups, from a green dream to up-lighting those spaces. Just follow our simple guide and you can’t go wrong.

KEEP IT GREEN

Wild, un-structured and fresh. Instant cool achieved by throwing some oversized foliage and stems together, bunched for a cylindrical effect or fastened to a suspended branch way above your table tops. It’s best to go with fishing wire, metal ‘S’ hooks or copper wire for a more polished finish. We just adore the moss covered wire lampshades for something a little more whimsical here too.

To add practicality to the proceedings hang rustic buckets below the floral piece and use as wine coolers. Neat huh? Thread through some festoon lighting and you’ve nailed it through from day to dusk.

DIY HANGS

From collecting your jam jars and tying with lengths of string to cutting your nans curtains into strips it’s all about a home-spun vibe here. We’re loopy for the latest DIY craze of macrame knotted designs, they’re a little more time consuming than some DIY’s but totally worth every knotted minute. *DIY tutorial coming soon* Finish by tucking in colourful floral filled terracotta pots or fresh succulents in abundance.

Dried flowers are becoming ever more popular, save yours in the airing cupboard and hand bind together in bunches for a rustic touch. If you can’t create suspension from your venue ceiling then try creating a frame to stand on your table to hang from. There is never one way to skin a cat folks. But which ever way you go getting yourself to Hobby Craft is a must for this look.

LIGHT IT UP

Suspended light is beyond beautiful, I love the subtle jam jars and tea lights for a simplistic touch, or tapered candles to create something more formal.

Nowhere to hang lights from at your venue? No problem. Just use what’s already there, dressing up your chandleries could not be easier. (You might need to talk very sweetly into your venues ears for some of these ideas, they might not be happy with their original period lighting fixtures being played with or the idea of you being 30 feet in the air at their venue and firmly wear their heath and safety hat on this. Do talk ideas through before you book anything with your florist.)

BIG IDEAS

Go bold or go home. Yep, go for impact and you’ve got yourself a winning statement floral focal point. Try loosely tied driftwood pieces or filled metal lanterns. Create a large wooden shape with free space inside or one huge instillation for maximum WOW’s.

The wire grids filled with tulips is just plain brilliant. Go a little off piste and use old bike wheels as a starting point. The possibility is endless….

AN A-Z OF STYLING YOUR OWN WEDDING. (PART 2)

Hello again Little Lenders,

I really hope the first part of this blog was useful and given you a few tips and pointers for styling your own day. Without further ado, here is part 2.

N – NOTE DOWN YOUR SUPPLIERS

Keep a list of the suppliers you’ll be using for your wedding day in one place. Also when they’ll need access to your venue so that you can let your venue know. It’s worth giving this list to someone who is on site the day before to check that everyone has been and a list of numbers in case something dosent go to plan.

0 – O.T.T

It’s OK to go a little Over The Top and add a little WOW factor (It’s only your blinking Wedding day!) Create a talking point with your decor, a big entrance or a ceremony focal point with a difference. Your photographer will love you for it too.

5f942cf608f3bf8f201e174064719ffe
Image via 100 layer cake.

P – PINTEREST

Pinterest can be the greatest source of inspiration and at times the greatest curse. Once you have pinned and planned an idea you really, really love step away from the pins. There will always be more ideas than time! Go with what your gut instinct is telling you for your decor and you won’t go far wrong. And I always say simplicity can rule more often than not. A lot of the ideas you see on Pinterest have been created by teams of stylists and professional wedding hire teams with access to lots of tools and even machinery. If you think you can nail the look with your family and loved ones then go for it, if you think it’s beyond your skills set keep things a little simpler with the set-up.

73240d9afa8a5f7cb9be31af9ad0df48

Q – QUALITY NOT QUANTITY

More is not more. Give your props, decor pieces and big ideas a space to shine.

R – READY FOR ANYTHING

Packing an essential ‘on the day Styling bag’ is a total must. You just know you’ll need to re-iron those table topper cloths again. Ours includes : Scissors, string, pins, cable ties, bulldog clips, gaffe tape and electrical tape, iron and thick towel and plenty of bin bags. Pack some glass cleaner and kitchen roll too to touch up glass wear. These are the items that you’ll definitely find yourself looking for.

S – SPACES

Make or ask for a floor plan of your venue and go to your venue to take photos from all angles. It will keep you on track when you’re planning something for a wall that actually has a door in the middle of it, or you’d like to plug some lights in but there is no socket anywhere near by. (Cue gaffa tape from your kit…)

972e1b43a7653dc51fce972dccf0a624
Image via Style Me Pretty.

T – TEAM WORK

Sounds crazy, but assign a ‘set-up’ day team of friends and family to help. Delegate jobs out with rough timings for each task before you arrive at the venue; hanging the bunting, dressing the cards table (some pictures from your Pinterest boards for friends will really help make sure it’s spot on too)… Letting other people help with jobs will leave you more free to act as the head stylist make sure everything is just as you envisioned. Try to leave some time at the end of the day to do final checks so you can sleep easy knowing everything looks perfecto.

U – UNDERSTANDING SUPPLIERS

Picking suppliers that really understand you and your style is crucial and make your wedding planning heaps less daunting. Set up a meeting or go for a coffee with your photographer and florist to make sure you’re on the same page. All good suppliers will want to get to know what you’re about as a couple and what you really want. Then, really all you need to do is trust them to do what they do best.

V – VENUE

When picking your venue make sure it will compliment the styling that you have in mind. A rustic aesthetic is going to be really hard to achieve in a modern, urban building. It will save you lots of styling work and help you style simply and effectively if you choose a venue that has the feel you’re after.

5011f26de2f8cbe3f6d02865122e53b6
Green Wedding Shoes.

W – WEATHER

If it all gets a little soggy have you thought of a back up plan? How much of your day are you reliant on being outside? Make sure you let your wedding caterer or co-ordinator know Plan B if the weather does take a U-turn and can help make the necessary changes to ensure a smooth turnaround of the day. No-one wants soggyy sandwiches or bottoms for that matter.

982a558a53588d16fcf11542c36922bd
Rock my wedding.

X – ‘X’ MARKS THE SPOT

Sign your wedding well – Right from the roads leading to the venue. There is nothing worse than having a hidden beauty of a venue that no-one can find. It will create excitement on the drive through too.

Y – YES I CAN

Be confident that you can bring all the elements of your wedding decor together, you’ve been planning for months and it will all be totally rad. If things don’t look quite pin-worthy don’t fret, ask your florist or venue co-ordinator for their opinion as they’ll usually tell you what you could tweak with their creative eye.

Z – ZZZ

Take some time after setting up the decor to really take it all in. On the day it all goes so quickly, give your self and team a big pat on the back. Get yourself a glass of bubbles and hot bath then get a good nights sleep.

There you have it our guide to styling your own wedding day. Are you looking forward to styling your own day? Missed Part 1 – Find it here.

It’s going to be a whole lot of fun…

HELLO 2015.

94fd6c40eb1fc79b02e5187a1a515759

It’s taken me a few days (probably because I was still full of Christmas cheese and Disaronno) but I am finally excited to get started on this year. Who’s with me?

With so much to look forward to and the Little Lending 2015 diary filling up for another busy season ahead I’m going to embrace this new year energy.
Each and every day I’ll try to fill with a new possibility – ‘When your mind is open the opportunity is endless’ don’t they say.

I hope to continue on with the Little Lending ethos of providing original, timeless inspiration to creative, stylish couples planning their wedding day this year. There will be more new products coming your way, more styled shoots and collaborations with other local suppliers to give you ideas of how to style our growing assortment of props. Plus you can meet us at some of our favourite wedding fairs across Norfolk too. (Just keep an eye on our Facebook page for info of fairs we’ll be at.)

We’ve been busy scribbling ideas down for more blog posts too and next week there will be our look at emerging 2015 wedding trends that we love and actually want to jump on board with. Plus more posts with helpful tips and DIY ideas you might want to try. We’re also uber excited about being a B.loved blog contributor this year and have a few ideas in our pipeline we’re working on exclusively for them.

And if you’ve followed us a while on Instagram, you may have spotted behind the scenes snaps on our Botanical concept shoot back in October. But next week we’ll be able to share all the inspiration as we’re featured on a brilliant international wedding blog. Hooray!

Wishing you all an awesome year and if you’re a 2015 Little Lender we are ridiculously excited for you.

(A little added important note for our Little Lenders this year : If you have pencilled items in with us this year we do require a booking deposit to secure them for your date and sadly cannot hold items as the Summer months are looking incredibly busy.)

2015, Let’s do this…
