If you missed us on Festival Brides beautiful site last week this post is for you.

We were so thrilled to be featured on a site that really has the best ethos about weddings, its perfect for realxed and and non-traditional brides to be. They have some of the best real weddings around and some pretty awesome ideas and inspirations if you’re looking to do something a little off the beaten path with your day.

Here are just some of my own personal favourites from our Woodland Picnic shoot in Sandringham with the super Talented Darena Stoda of DS Photography and flowers by a lovely local lady at Buds in Bloom.

AFTERNOON TEA ANYONE?

Afternoon Tea
Photography by Nick Illot.

Afternoon tea, a qunitessentially British thing to do and where better than our capital. I took Saturday afternoon tea with friends at No. 12 near Euston, London and filled ourselves with Finger Sandwiches, scones and clotted cream, cup cakes, tartlets, pots of tea and glasses of fizz. Its fair to say I couldn’t move by the end.

London hosts some really unique afternoon teas today; from The Sandersons ‘Mad Hatter Tea Party’ which does as the name suggests with quirky treats and ideas from Alice in Wonderland, ‘Pret-a-Portea’ at The Berkley, a fashion themed tea with biscuits shaped in signature couture pieces and The Chesterfield in Mayfair is hosing ‘Charlie and The Chesterfield’ based on the westend musical Charlie and The chocolate factory with choclate based surprises!

But afternoon teas can be as casual as a few sandwiches and a fruit scone with a brew or a far more glamourous affair with twists on classics and selections of exotic teas – which ever way you look at it, we think it makes a pretty perfect wedding breakfast.

Afternoon teas are easy to theme into your day – put some 1940’s music on a record player if your planning a vintage do, or select foods to suit a colour theme – ombre cakes are a big deal for 2014.
Its the kind of meal you can relax through and keep the glasses filled ready for the speeches.

Mix and match crockery or keep it simple with white and let your center pieces shine. Whatever sized tea-party you are planning we have 2 and 3 tier white cake stands for all.

But why stop at weddings : throw friends a tea party baby shower or hen do – fill the teapots with cocktails instead, we like that idea!

HOME-MADE STATIONERY

Starting our wedding stationery first actually helped me set the theme, colour palette and styling for our day. True Story.

Table Setting

Doing the Save the Dates really made me think about picking out some colours, fonts and hand touches like rubber stamping to use through all our stationery. We wanted the rustic, relaxed feel of our day conveyed to the guests from the start.

We had the save the dates as hand illustrations of ourselves, by a great illustrator friend of ours Keith Watts, http://visualdiaryofkeithwatts.tumblr.com
They were completely personal and made a big impression. The bunting dropped onto the card behind us even featured as the wedding bunting colours!

Save the Date

I hand picked a font at http://www.dafont.com
This is such a great website to download original, themed fonts from and some are free.

Our invites we’re also illustrations, of the wedding shoes we were going to wear. With the text ‘Established pair since 2004’ An idea I thought of to tie in more about us. The back said ‘Two less fish in the sea’ so this was carried through to the Thankyou’s we sent.

thankyou

We went for postcards for the STD’s and also for the Thankyou Cards as it saved on buying envelopes! Every Little Helps! The invites were printed on loose card sheets and tied together to make a little tied parcel for guests to untie.

There were luggage tags with Dymo tapes for place names and for RSVP tags where we asked each guest to send back with a song request. Its key to tie in the ideas again through to the wedding table and seating plans and can save on costs too if you are buying stationery in bigger numbers.

All the stationery was ordered through Vista Print http://www.vistaprint.co.uk/ Its always been reliable and great value company for me.

If you find the whole idea of Hand-made stationery all too much then take a look at some beautiful stationery companies I’m a big fan of –
Lucy Says I do – http://lucysaysido.com/stationery/
Russet and Grey – http://www.russetandgray.co.uk
Knots and Kisses – http://knotsandkisses.co.uk/weddingsstationery.html
Vickilicious Designs – http://www.vickiliciousdesigns.co.uk

The more you think outside the box with your stationery the more your family and friends will be excited about the day from the word go! I even saw on http://www.notonthehighstreet.com a wedding invite printed on a balloon to blow up!

Hope this has left you buzzing about stationery,

PHOTOGRAPHY IS EVERYTHING.

For me finding the perfect photographer for our wedding day was really one of the hardest things to do. Your wedding photographs are for life, not only your life but they will be inherited by your children and passed through from generation to generation.

They must capture you and your partner as a couple timelessly and subtly in my opinion, they are pictures you will look at more than any others you’ll ever have taken – they have to be ‘you’.

I believe spending on your wedding photography should be the biggest splurge, if you love someones work so much it brings a smile to your face on their website – you know you have to book them.

I’m adding just a few photographers who’s work I always enjoy are available in the Norfolk area. They are some great photographers today who are pushing the wedding photography arena away from staged cheesy group shots, so enjoy finding the one for you while getting swept up in all the beautiful shots and couples along the way.

Nick Illot was our photogrpaher, I fell in love with his subtle approach to taking pictures, he never took over the day or made our guests even feel like they were being photographed. Here are some of my favourite pictures from my own wedding day, I wasn’t sure wether to share as they really are precious to us, so I hope you like them.

Another local photographer I’ve fallen madly in love her work since following her on Instagram @welliesandvogue – Tori Hancock.
Her work is so natural and catches you off guard with her simplicity. You are caught in the moment with her work and I really can’t get enough.
