CLEAN LINES AND GEOMETRIC SHAPES.

Well HELLO there! It’s been a while, if you haven’t seen my Instagram or Facebook you may not know I became a mummy to a gorgeous girl, Della Joanie, about 6 months ago now. I will be writing a post up about running my business with a babe and some of the huge changes that have taken shape behind the scenes but I thought it was about time to share some wedding inspiration with you, because that’s really what you’re here for, right? And this ones all about geometric shapes and clean lines, this look is not going away and is set to be pretty big for next year too.

So today we have a guest blog post from my new super super stylish assistant Laura of Rose and Weston fashion blog. We met when she helped me with the Most Curious Wedding fair in the Spring and was basically the biggest help ever. She just got what I was looking for and we clicked. You might even meet Laura on some styling set ups with me from time to time too.

I’m going to hand over to Laura now…
‘So when Penny exhibited some new amazing pieces at The Most Curious Wedding Fair a few months back, I knew she was on to yet another great styling idea that you brides-and-grooms-to-be need to see more of - Geometrics!

The emerging trend of bringing an ultra modern touch to your big days in the form of sharp lines and shapes is something I’ve spotted more and more of over on Pinterest too. From wedding stationary to lanterns, but most notably in the form of amazing ceremony structures and backdrops, the clean, minimalist lines styled alongside masses of fresh greenery gives a strikingly modern vibe yet at the same time still feels completely timeless and elegant.

Maybe you’re not wanting geometrics as a full theme across the wedding can pick and the beauty is choosing features to make it work for you… but just imagine brass faceted terrariums flickering with candles paired beautifully with the aged wood of the hexagonal backdrop, picked up again in elements including table numbers or place card settings, what’s not to love?

So if you’re wanting to explore the geometric trend have a look below for a few ways you can create this vibe…

CEREMONY OR TOP TABLE BACK DROPS: These paired back wooden shapes contrast beautifully with fresh florals and heavy greenery making the perfect eye catching focal point for your vows.

BRASS TERRARIUMS: Faceted lanterns look perfect holding anything from florals, to succulents to candles, and can be placed as centre pieces on table tops, along the aisle or to decorate doorways and alcoves.

STATIONERY AND SIGNAGE: An easy way to bring the whole day together is with uniform colours and geometric shapes across name cards, table plans and numbers and invitations. Add linear shapes and elements to signage and banners for added wows.

WHITE ON WHITE IS ALRIGHT.

I’m finally made some time to bring back one of our favourite shoots of last year to our little blog. One of the biggest collaborations back in May was with the super cool Festival Brides blog, I can’t tell you how much I loved working with this awesome UK wedding blog. Here’s how our white on white shoot came together….

The idea of a modern, simple white wedding has been something I’ve been obsessed with for a while. So many stunning white-on-white images we’re flooding my Pinterest and it had been on my radar for a while to work on something very minimal and play with the idea of layering all the whites. White symoblises purity; a cleanliness and innocence, it’s a stunning colour in its own right and if you’re looking for a minimal timeless palette for your wedding, just keep it easy with all white tones and a tonne of greenery to boot.

I was keen for all the suppliers involved to bring their creativity to the shoot, I really wanted to capture lots of subtle textures. I worked with the florists and talked about lots of white seasonal flowers, from big blossomy blooms to more modern leafy and whispy stems to really create something a little unruly, home-grown and wild on the flower front. Emma at Buns of Fun on the cakes made a trio of cakes, something we’d been thinking about for some time. I love the idea of a mix of textural finishes on the cake stacks and created a platform display for the 3 cakes. It made for some really interesting shots that were captured in the candle light.

Our table scape was draped with an organic white cotton muslin, and also had a spotty white net sheer fabric; they really helped create the base once rouched to nestle props among.

The stationery was super modern, clean and cool. It fitted into the table setting perfectly. Emma Jo also made the most delicate little paper fern leaves for the plates.

We went for 3 big backdrop set ups at the venue. A very soft chalky grey marble effect cotton backdrop. This was a DIY effort from myself before the shoot. Created by using a large cotton sheet, make sure its damp to start with, then using fabric paint that was watered down mixing black and white paints I created a type of cloud/marble effect with a large brush in super soft greys. Darker grey was used with a smaller brush to create outlines within the brush shapes. On the day we then used trailing clematis with pins onto the draped fabric for the ultimate romantic frame.

The second backdrop was all from foraged branches and leaves. With Michelle from the florists we worked carefully into the walls of the barn with small pins again creating a frame work for the branches to lightly sit. We built it up almost to the top of the barn wall in one area. It was a stunning wild backdrop that gave the illusion of living plants growing inside.

The final backdrop was our Wallpaper from Graham and Brown taped and hung behind our table. We then white spray painted some fresh leaves and flower heads, these we’re then taped to the wall paper sporadically to create a 3D element and again creating more texture and shades of white against the crumbling painted exterior wall.

It was important to achieve something very uncomplicated, cool and fresh. You can be so much more creative with a simple palette because you start to think about other elements; the light, the texture and the tones and shapes that can be formed. Less is always so much more for me as a stylist. The key to the white-on-white look not being underwhelming is of course adding interest with the textures, using interesting cut glass tumblers or glazed ceramic plates on the tables. With an abundence of white candle light a white-on-white reception can be soothing and tranquil and totally breathtaking.

BRITISH BACKYARD URBAN PRETTY REAL WEDDING.

Crickey! I can’t believe we’ve not blogged this gorgeous real backyard wedding inspo before now. Back in the spring of last year I was lucky enough to be asked along by Louise Beukes, Editor of B.loved blog to be her styling assistant for the wedding of Sinclair, owner of Maids to Measure. I mean, really, for someone new to the wedding industry this was an opportunity I was not going to miss!
So with my little van ram packed full of lends I headed to Portsmouth for something very special…

I learnt so much more than I thought by shadowing the brilliant Louise, from thinking through the logistics of setting up a wedding, how to organise a team of suppliers right down to the essentials for a styling kit. It was after this wedding that I knew I wanted to be more involved with wedding styling and not just prop hire.

The wedding was super stylish, beautiful seasonal flowers from Liz of Blue Sky Flowers lined table tops with lots of potted plants and herbs. A palette of mid-grey, white and bright pops of pink on the stationery was perfect. Modern contemporary all the way for this back-yard city wedding with a whole heap of pretty.
It was incredible to see the space transform under the organisation of Anna from Bride and Glory; There was a ceiling filled with fresh foliage and festoon lights, then we set to hanging my galvanised buckets as suspended drinks holders which really added the cool and the floor was covered in old persian rugs.
The graffiti garage was transformed with drinks station details and a more pretty blooms to soften the bar top. An adjoining lounge with throws and cushions featured our mini skulls and antlers on the table with cigars for the boys and baskets of cushions to cosy up with.

Helping with this wedding really opened my eyes with wedding styling and design, anything really is possible. If you love a space and it’s where you see yourself celebrating then transforming it into your wedding vision will totally work…with the right team to have your back you’ll be dining in a Pinterest worthy picture in no time!

A SUFFOLK BARN STYLED ECLECTIC WEDDING

The Summer season is beginning to now ease off for us so it’s time to start sharing a bit more of the ‘incredible Summer of 2016’ (this is what it shall now be known as! Starting with this totally epic day captured by Mr Phill photography, who I think I have a slightly obsessive photography crush on…

This wedding was all about the details, when the Laura the bride got in touch for me to help style the barn with her I was so excited. A totally new venue for me and after a 2 hour venue walk round meeting we had some big plans and ideas. Laura was a true DIY bride and nothing was too big a project, from the dozens of little origami birds behind the cake to the hand painted terracotta pots on the tables and of course that hand written paper table plan…I arrived on the day and was already in awe!

Please enjoy these images of a wedding that I adored being a part of, I have such great memories of the set up day spent with Laura and Tim’s family and friends. I dabbled at floristry with market and garden grown flowers and had a ball setting up props; from the lit up hanging ladder for the sweets, the macrame backdrop behind the band, the boho corner…it was all just so me. I may not say it enough when I’m inundated with hire to wash and pack and an overflowing inbox, but I love what I do.

10 WEDDING DETAILS NOT TO FORGET.

The stylist in me loves a detail shot, honestly, possibly even a little bit more that the ones with people in which I don’t know if I should admit that! I just get really excited about a lovely little styled detail from a wedding that some one has really considered and put some loving thought into.

So I wanted to share some details not to forget if you’re going in for all of the detail with your big do.

INVITES
On our instagram this week it was our top tip to make sure you have a full set of stationery for your wedding stylist of wedding photographer on the wedding day. From the save the date, to place names, menu, invite…Pull in some details or flowers around them to create something sweet as a lovely reminder of all the effort that creating your paper pretty.

THE DRESS SHOT
Don’t be like me and leave it on the bathroom door….! Think about the placement, the hanger and dressing it perhaps with flowers or other accesorries you’ll be wearing.

Image from June Bug Weddings

BOYS DETAILS
The guys need nice details too, maybe a little boys box with their accessories, button holes, a glass of their dutch courage and cigars on a sideboard maybe…

Image via Best Day Ever.

BAR STYLING
Have a little fun with added details, a bar always needs signage, some flowers and candles. Add a little of you two too.

Image via 100 layer cake.

CHAIRS
I’m all about the chair swag, so much so I gave them their own pin board. Think of florals to signage, diy garlands and trinkets that represent you two.

Image via Ruffled

LIGHTING.
Always banging on about lighting, I know but think about the atmosphere you want to create. Clustered tea lights in cubby holes and simple church candles do all the work.

TABLE PLAN
This can be creative, all too often it’s just sat on an easel. Think about creating a fab display using items that are personal to you both.

Image via The Lane

TOP TABLE MAGIC
Add a little extra to where you two will be sat. Either through the decor or a different floral centre piece. Or think about hanging a backdrop behind where you’ll be sitting. After all there be lots of pictures taken here.

Image via Ruffled.

AISLE STYLE
Appart from the ceremony focus think about what will be lining your aisle. Potted plants, candles, chair ties and garlands…so many options.

TABLE NUMBERS AND MENUS
Give a little thought about how to display them on the tables and amongst your crockery and linen or table centre flowers.

ALTERNATIVE WEDDING INSPO AT THE KEEPER AND THE DELL.

For those of us that have followed us for a while you’ll know we love a photoshoot. It’s a chance to get together with like minded people and get those creative juices flowing. And theres always a new prop buy I’ve been wanting to style up…

So last year Lolly at The Keeper and the Dell asked us if we’d like to be involved with a shoot over at her incredible venue. A chilled out, eclectic shoot with Norfolk’s coolest suppliers with all the love and glamour of a Mediterranean gathering to be a loose theme of the day. In Lolly from The Keeper and the Dell’s words, “Imagine an artistic/celebrity couple with a true eclectic edge, wanting to marry in crazy England but with a Mediterranean connection. Capturing the feel of photographer Tim Walker (but staying this side of crazy) with the glorious glamour feel of a Dolce & Gabbana family gathering.”

Well it was just that. Extravagant staging, boho styling, romantic motifs, bold colours, a powerful sense of family and above all, a strong editorial shooting style….

I loved mixing all the colour with this one, all the rules went out of the window creating something really eclectic and gave the nod to the Med we were looking for.

NOMAD COASTAL STYLED SHOOT BY THE LITTLE LENDING CO.

Way back in the Spring of last year I decided I had to do a fine art beach shoot, but with a Lending twist of course. I loved the ideas of a wild horseback runaway bride, running free on an open beach. It was important for me to keep everything very soft and natural with a nod to easy boho vibes. We asked the incredible Rebecca Lindon photography to capture it for us on film photography. There is something really beautiful about film photography and knew it would be a perfect fit for this shoot.

“With a vision of a nomad costal shoot in soft, simple layers textures we mixed elements of luxe Protea flowers, mosses and succulents amongst a table scape of texture from hand dyed silk linens, painted feathers, antlers and a little shine from the antique brass candles on upturned crates in the sand. Simple silhouette dresses, windswept braided hair and barefeet we’re the perfect look for our bride adorned with rose quartz jewels. A palette of grey, indigo blue and fawn kept things contemporary and grounded with subtle highlights of pastel rose. A stacked ombre grey cake along with soft brushed stationery designs finished the set up.”

PROPS SPOTLIGHT : ANTLERS AND SKULLS.

Image via Ruffled Blog.

Yep anyone that knows me knows I love a good antler find. And to anyone that’s been to LLHQ you may have also spotted ’10 Spike Mike’ in the living room (A whopper of a deer skull often adorned with seasonal trimmings, maybe this is a little too far?!) I think the obsession started when I started to looking to Scandinavian inspiration for my home a few years ago, so naturally I started collecting antlers and skulls for the range too.

We thought we’d bring you some props spotlight posts and show just how versatile our props can be. Not looking for a scandi winter wedding? No problem, antlers and skulls sit so well into Summer boho cool or really rustic barn digs. It’s fair to say we’ve used them quite a bit in our own styled collaborations too…

Here’s a few more ideas; from softening up and prettying (that’s totally a word right?) with soft pastel florals paired with luxe rustic furnishings to keeping things more modern and simplified. Or go more aztec in direction to keep things fresh and oh so fab.

Go totally boho; Antlers and sculls never look better that with plenty of fresh foliage and flowers for W-day decor. Speak to us about how to add them to your theme* We’re so mad for darker palettes right now, a love seeing the persian throws and darker glass vessels. And don’t get me started on that cake with those florals.

*We have a fab floral Reindeer DIY you can try coming to a wedding blog near you very soon too!

ALTERNATIVE COLOURFUL OUTDOOR WEDDING AT THE KEEPER AND THE DELL.

Sometimes you find the perfect customers. Little Lenders you just go ‘YES’ with! And let me tell you, Kiera and Aiden could not have been more on my wave length. They were one of those couples that just got what I am trying to do in my little world of weddings. They made me realise it’s totally what I’m meant to be doing. For that reason alone, this wedding will forever be one of my absolute faves.

I’m going to hand over to Kiera to tell you more about her wedding planning journey…

What did you love and hate about wedding planning?
Aiden and I were never going to get married so the wedding planning thing was all a huge deal for us! My absolute favourite part was realising that we could literally do ANYTHING we wanted with our day and we add in our quirky style throughout. It was our complete mission to make a wedding that was not at all traditional or formal and that all our guests would leave saying wow that was so original, so relaxed and so ‘Kiera and Aiden!’
The thing I absolutely HATED about wedding planning is that all of a sudden EVERYONE has got an opinion and everyone seemed to demand to be part of the process. Aiden and I fought so hard to make it all about us and spent so much time explaining to people that no we didn’t want any horse shoes as gifts or formal photographs or a cake cutting or a frigging horse and carriage!!! Luckily, we have super supportive parents and best friends that get us completely and they allowed us to just do our thing! * plus we found awesome likeminded suppliers like Penny that helped us confirm it really was our vision and no one else’s!

Where did you find your wedding inspiration?
What I loved is the amount of content online that can provide alternative wedding inspiration! Pinterest was a huge part of our planning process and we went to events such as ‘A Most Curious Wedding Fair’. We also took loads of inspiration from wedding blogs such as ‘Rock My Wedding’. I loved keeping an eye on the Facebook and Instagram pages of our suppliers and our venue as they often posted the most amazing ideas. ‘The Keeper and the Dell’ often posts awesome ideas on their Facebook page as does Penny! ‘The Rose Shed’ has a fab floristry Instagram account, ‘Festival Brides’ is great for alternative, dreamy weddings! Most of the time, I would just Google ‘alternative weddings, boho weddings, festival style weddings etc.! I didn’t really buy wedding magazines as I found that the majority were full of the traditional fluffy wedding stuff that we just weren’t looking for! I did, however, treat myself to the 6 monthly ‘Elle’ wedding supplement #starsineyes!

How would you describe your wedding décor style? And how did you achieve it?
We definitely went for a festival/woodland/bohemian style wedding with a bit of vintage thrown in for good measure ☺ Constant trawling of wedding blogs where couples had done a similar thing before helped us to achieve it. But most of all, we just followed our individual style. I am so incredibly lucky that Aiden and I have completely the same taste in anything décor and he wanted to be every bit a part of the planning as me- it was totally about us as a couple and putting in details and quirks that got everyone saying ‘that’s so Aiden and Kiera!’ We also took some of our own décor from home to decorate the venue too!

What advice would you give to Little Lenders still to tie the knot?
Do it YOUR WAY! Don’t care about tradition, or what others say you are supposed to do! It’s your day- do what the hell you want! Anything is possible! We even had a temporary tattoo and glitter station!!

The Suppliers : ….and any that we’re just amazing that Little Lenders should be using!
Rose Florist- Lisa at Rose Florist is absolutely INCREDIBLE! She listened and got everything we said about what we wanted- I couldn’t have asked for more… my floral crown was literally to die for- I never expected something so vibrant and beautiful! She is so hardworking and professional (plus she is my cousin!!!)
Pandora’s Kitchen- these guys are the most talented, kind, hardworking and professional caterers EVER! Plus their food is just incredible!
Dust with Cocoa- Debbie (formerly of Pandora’s Kitchen) did our wedding cake and I was bowled over when I saw it- it was absolutely beautiful and tasted delicious!
Argent & Sable- made a bespoke fairground ‘I do’ sign for our day and they also rent out the most incredible signs!
Bill’s Ices- Norfolk vintage looking ice-cream van- super friendly, reasonable prices and delicious!
Meringue Girls- a trip to Hackney was so worth it for their delicious sweet stuff!
Macaroons and More- amazing!
Lavender & Jude- my dress was everything.

Thanks so much to Kiera for her really honest comments and fab recommendations. I think you’ll all agree that these pair just ooze cool and happiness. Wish you guys the best married life ahead.

Huge thankyou for these incredible photos from Jordanna Marston Photography. So Rad!

WHAT IS A WHITE WEDDING TODAY?

So we all have an image when we think of a ‘white wedding’ right; traditional big fluffy white dress, men in stiff suits and matching pink cravats and maybe a fancy rolls royce to take the wedding party to church. Bleugh.

I had what I’d call a ‘white wedding’ and there was none of that. I am a bit of a traditionalist at heart so for me I knew I’d always marry in white though.

Here’s what I think a white wedding should represent in 2015: A simplicity, a purity and a new beginning. No fuss, just easy bridal style and timelessly cool, chic decor.

I’m totally into White as a colour and how it can have so many layers and textures. White on white is a big theme for weddings this year and I can’t get enough. Uncomplicated, clean and modern is the only way white weddings should be heading.

‘A white wedding is an abundance of fresh cool tonal whites in a natural setting, a crisp white iced cake with a frothy tide of eau de nil florals, organic whisps of floaty fabrics in rinsed chalky colours. Timelessly cool whether using lace, crochet or georgette, white being associated with purity, simplicity and innocence.’ Emma at Buns of Fun.

Really, you get to be so much more creative with keeping to a simple palette; bringing in more textures and light from the ceremony right though to the table tops. As always folks, less is so much more and here in white, super duper stylish and looks so damn fine in photographs for years to come.

What does a white wedding mean to you? We’ve a whole heap of white on white ideas on our ‘White Wedding‘ Pin board.
